Crayons are objects of childhood and uninhibited creativity. Reduced addresses the basic box of crayons, a set of eight. This box offers no extravagance, no indulgence. Though much can still be done with such an elementary set, they do seem mediocre. By trimming them to the verge of breaking, I have reduced their status below mediocre. An already delicate set of objects becomes nearly impossible to handle, both in physicality and reputation. Being displayed on a narrow ledge projected out from the wall only serves to heighten their precarious condition. The impending calamity of this piece intimates the perils of undermining childhood creativity and even children themselves.
